farm cottage

Gaia’s Grace Farm Cottage is nestled in the heart of the Alkmaar valley, just 13km outside Mbombela, in beautiful Mpumalanga.

We are blessed with 360-degree views of river, hills and lush vegetation, and a community of awesome interesting people, including some local artists and orchid farmers.

We have the benefit of peaceful surrounds and being close to nature, while still conveniently close to town. We are 51 km from the Numbi Gate to the Iconic Kruger National Park, and 30 km from Kruger Mpumalanga International.

Located in the heart of the Lowveld, our cottage enjoys close proximity to a myriad of awe-inspiring attractions including the UNESCO World Heritage site of The Barberton Makhonjwa Mountains, and the beautiful Blyde River Canyon. Guests can also explore cascading waterfalls, all from Hoedspruit to Sabie and Graskop, experience adventures at Graskop Gorge Lift and Big Swing, and take in the panoramic views from God’s Window.

Additionally, our prime location offers easy access to cultural experiences such as the White River Art Gallery, the tranquil Nelspruit Botanical Gardens, and immersive encounters with wildlife at Elephant Whispers and Horse Whispers and Chimp Eden sanctuary.

the space

Gaia’s Grace Farm Cottage is ideal for long stays, those who travel and work, weekend get-aways, families with children, friends who are traveling together, nature lovers, and couples in love. It sleeps 8 in spacious 3-bedroom accommodation and offers an open plan country-style kitchen (with scullery, pantry and laundry) dining and living room.

The large veranda is perfect for those who love to be outdoors (rain or shine) to enjoy the views, a quiet space and relaxed atmosphere, to roll out a yoga mat or to “kuier” (means to socialise, talk and share a meal) with friends.
The private garden view and beautiful scenery ensures the perfect retreat from busy life.

While we are primarily self-catering, we offer simple breakfasts and light meals, and special occasions can be arranged upon request.
We are powered through load shedding and the cottage can be serviced upon request.

guest access

We invite our guests to explore the property and splash in the stream. Our little river is called the “Klein Vis” a tributary of the “Vis Spruit”, which flows through the valley from high in the Kaapsehoop hills.

We offer a snail farm tour if any guests are interested in the farming of escargot and would like to see the process from start to finish.
Access to the snail paddocks is however restricted if guests are not accompanied.

Because we are nestled in nature, we request that guests tread lightly where-ever they are on the farm.

things to note

Our gorgeous farm cottage is accessed via approx. 2km of dirt road, just off the N4 towards Nelspruit. While it is not necessary to drive an off-road vehicle, higher clearance is an advantage.

Vehicles with low clearance should take it slow, and approach water contours head on.
Just before the last gate there is a stream crossing which is easily doable for vehicles with low clearance in the dry season.

During the rainy season (December-February) there are days where the river rises and is not passable for low clearance vehicles (>18cm), and staying in or hitching a ride with us, may be necessary.
