Gaia's Grace Accommodation

While also nestled here, on our farm, in the heart of the Alkmaar valley, just 13km outside Mbombela, in beautiful Mpumalanga, The Bed in The Shed is a unique stay.

A newly converted portion of our farm shed, located at the heart of our daily farming activities, guests can expect roosters at dawn, friendly staff who get started just before sunrise in Summer, and the hum of the tractor every now and then.

the space

The Bed in The Shed is perfect for backpackers, sightseers who need an overnight landing spot, and business travellers. It is equipped with all the basics, is clean and comfortable, and really great value for money. The Bed in The Shed can sleep 3-4 travellers in bachelor style open-plan accommodation.

Conveniently close to town with peaceful surrounds, the Bed in The Shed ensures a good night sleep, hot shower and a hearty meal.

Backpackers who wish to explore the beauty of Mpumalanga should have a look at our guidebook, the_real_lowveld and showmenelspruit for some local recommendations.

While we are primarily self-catering, we offer simple breakfasts and light meals, and special occasions can be arranged on request.

guest access

We invite our guests to explore the property and splash in the stream. Our little river is called the “Klein Vis” a tributary of the “Vis Spruit”, which flows through the valley from high in the Kaapsehoop hills.

We offer a snail farm tour if any guests are interested in the farming of escargot and would like to see the process from start to finish.
Access to the snail paddocks is however restricted if guests are not accompanied.

Because we are nestled in nature,
we request that guests tread lightly
where-ever they are on the farm.

things to note:

Our gorgeous farm cottage is accessed via approx. 2km of dirt road, just off the N4 towards Nelspruit. While it is not necessary to drive an off-road vehicle, higher clearance is an advantage.

Vehicles with low clearance should take it slow, and approach water contours head on.
Just before the last gate there is a stream crossing which is easily doable for vehicles with low clearance in the dry season.

During the rainy season (December-February) there are days where the river rises and is not passable for low clearance vehicles (>18cm), and staying in or hitching a ride with us, may be necessary.
